Who are we?
We do for fun what others fear more than death. They say that the number one fear in America is public speaking. Well, that is our sport! We are the Lindale Speech and Debate team. Built originally in the early 70s and then revived in the early 90s under the leadership of Janice Caldwell, our team competes locally, regionally, statewide, and nationwide throughout the season in speech and debate competitions. We believe that the importance of speaking, performing, and debating is evident. The benefits of competing in speech and debate activities has been well documented in scholarly research. While our students will often give up entire Saturdays (waking up well before the sun is out and coming home often well after the sun is down) and even weekends to pursue academic excellence. The Lindale Speech and Debate team has established itself as one of the premier forensic organizations in the region and even the state. We are proud of our success, but recognize that it comes from the legions of support we receive from our community, school, coaches, parents, and students. Speech and debate is for everyone. We are proud of a season that lasts most of the school year and provides levels of participation opportunities for anyone regardless of their schedule availability, skill level, or desire. We are committed to providing a unique and engaging academic environment where students can appropriately question and learn about the leading issues of the day. Students who participate learn the importance of advocacy and staying abreast of the major social, political, economic, and international issues of the day. In addition to our pursuit, we are proud of the ability of speech and debate to accept students of every different background. We promote forensics education, diversity, tolerance, and social justice. If you're looking for a home that accepts you, we will.
